Project Title: malaria, Child Mortality, and the Demographic Transition
Description: I will perform an empirical analysis modeling the variation of the ecological strength of malaria transmission in Africa, and exploiting the variation to understand how poor families change their fertility behavior in response to child mortality shocks. This work can help us understand how public health interventions reduce child mortality shocks. This work can help us understand how public health interventions reducing child mortality can accelerate the demographic transition in African, with profound implications for sustainable development on the continent and on the planet.
