Project Title: Geographic information systems/network analysis methods training

Project Description: Kahn requested a Hellman Fellowship for teaching release needed to pursue a quarter-long training program in Geographic Information Systems (i.e., “mapping”) and network analysis methodologies. The goal is to forge a mixed method toolkit that combines literacy in spatial and network analysis with ethnographic approaches to data collection and representation. This interdisciplinary skill set is lacking in the sub-discipline of sociocultural anthropology. Kahn will work with Graduate Student Researchers expert in spatial/network analysis to create a training program for these purposes that will inform my ongoing research on contemporary transnational maritime trade networks based in northern Haiti.
