Project Title: Understanding the Role of Geriatric Assessment in HIV Primary Care

Project Summary:

The number of adults age 50 or older living with HIV is dramatically increasing in the United States and they are now facing challenges such as multimorbidity, polypharmacy, and frailty.  Comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA), which includes assessment and management of conditions such as functional impairment, cognitive and mental health, could help improve care for older adults with HIV infection, but how to best integrate CGA into HIV care is unknown. In this proposal, we will assess an intervention incorporating CGA within the HIV clinic at San Francisco General Hospital for feasibility, acceptability, and association with improvement in quality of life and other patient reported outcomes.
