Project Title: Sewing thread as a transformative actuator for realizing muscle-powered machines
A novel artificial muscle, constructed from simple sewing thread, is used to design a muscle-powered orthotic system to help older adults with osteoarthritis. The project pursues algorithmic and physical demonstrations of using these novel sewing thread actuators in order to prove their unmatched capabilities, and change thinking about the societal potential for muscle-powered machines.
