Project Title: Evaluation of Interactions between Early Elementary Students with Autism and their Teachers during Literacy and Mathematics Classroom Observations
Project Description: This project will examine interactions between students with autism and their teachers using previously collected classroom video observations of literacy and mathematics lessons. With the increased prevalence of students with autism in public schools and the lack of tools to assess and effectively intervene with this population, many students with autism experience poor educational and life-long outcomes. This project begins to address this critical need by integrating two existing classroom observations in order to identify salient features of these interactions that relate to student engagement. These data will serve as pilot data for a federal grant to continue this line of investigation.
