Project Title: An ethological approach towards understanding the effects of chronic stress in the brain
With support from the Hellman Fellows Fund, Lammel’s research group will examine the mechanisms by which chronic stress can lead to depression. The Lammel lab will identify brain regions and circuits that are altered in response to chronic stress and correlate these change with specific depression-related symptoms. Using advanced imaging methods and optogenetics the Lammel lab not only hopes to visualize the changes in neural activity in response to chronic stress, but they also aim to develop manipulations that ultimately can reverse them.
