Project Title: The Yang-Mills equations and geometry
Dimofte proposes to study the mathematical principles governing quantum field theories in two spatial dimensions, developing new connections between geometric representation theory (on the mathematical side) and the physics of vortices. This will elucidate the fundamental structure of two-dimensional quantum field theory and (conversely) allow new physical intuition to be applied to a very active area of mathematics.
