UC Berkeley

Emilia Araujo Zin first developed an interest in studying the visual system and its functions, particularly in relation to retinal diseases, while she was in undergraduate school. She decided to enroll in the Visual Science department at UC Berkeley because of the school’s reputation for studying gene therapy for retinal degenerative diseases.

“As an international student the Hellman Award has allowed me to join this incredible institution and pursue this interest–without the support of the Award it would have likely been impossible for me to be here,” Zin says.
