Robert Martin-Short

2014 Hellman Graduate Awardee

Earth and Planetary Science
UC Berkeley

Robert Martin-Short is currently working on seismology and Earth imaging, but his interests range from earthquake early warning to the numerical modeling of mantle convection.

While Martin-Short was an undergraduate student in Geophysics at Imperial College London, he spent his third-year as a visiting student at UC Berkeley and decided to pursue his graduate studies here.

Born and raised in the U.K., Martin-Short is excited about the opportunity to explore the San Francisco Bay Area and to continue his studies at UC Berkeley.

“I feel extremely privileged to have been awarded the Hellman Fellowship, particularly as a first year student. I appreciate that the award comes with a certain expectation that I will remain highly motivated throughout my Ph.D. and commit to the highest standard of research that I can achieve,” Martin-Short says.
